Chaery Moon
Chaery Moon is a dance maker, performer, and educator whose work shares her inner landscapes through body motion. Working across live performance and new media, she draws from both Eastern and Western traditions, weaving together ballet and contemporary dance to explore time, transitions, and intention. Her creative process embraces the unknown, allowing abstract ideas to evolve into concrete forms, and she often collaborates with artists in sound, visual art, and design to expand the depth of her choreographic language.
Guided by the belief that a good artist is not only a skilled mover but also a compassionate and generous citizen of the world, Moon stands on the shoulders of her mentors and hopes to become that foundation for younger artists who wish to push the field forward.
She received early recognition by winning the Tanzolymp in Berlin and earned her BFA from The Juilliard School before joining the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon in France. Returning to the U.S., she pursued her MFA in Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Since then, she has created and presented works for stage, film, and site-specific performance in New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and South Korea. Her work has been supported by NYFA, LMCC, the Korean government, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, Downtown Brooklyn, and the Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation, and she is currently developing new work as a 2025 Fall Artist-in-Residence at the Baryshnikov Arts.
Her collaborations have appeared in Schön! Magazine and Vogue Hong Kong, and her writing has been published in Dance and People and Dance magazines in South Korea. Moon is a certified Cunningham Technique® instructor, actively involved in projects with the Merce Cunningham Trust, and also performs with Rashaun Mitchell + Silas Riener.
